Great post, Liza. Did you know that the Hebrew word for trust also mean refuge? As we are able to trust God it's like entering a refuge. And the best way to grow in trust is a deeper relationship with God, knowing Him better, as you said. Psalm 9:10 "those who know your name put their trust in You."
